Xbox
I think it might finally be time to get an Xbox soon. The Xecuter 3 is out, or just about out. It’s solderless, works with the newer 1.6 versions of the Xbox, and has a nifty looking front control panel thing with a LCD and stuff. After taxes and discounts and stuff, it would end up costing me about $325 CAD for the system with a couple of games and the modchip. Not too bad. Later on I could always add a decent size hard drive.
I don’t really care about most of the games for the Xbox, except maybe Jade Empire. Mostly I just want to use it for emulation and watching DivX/XviD/etc stuff. I’m not even as concerned about playing copied games. If a game is good, I don’t mind buying it.
I’d probably have to rearrange things slightly on my home theatre system and television, so I could use the digital audio and S-video inputs for it. But that shouldn’t be much of a problem.

Hmm, I’d like an Xbox, again just for the purpose of playing divx over the network - so there’s no need for a bigger hard drive either.
In my case I’d also definately go for the advanced connector thingy for s-video/digital (then it could just hook into my switcher thing that then connects to the projector/surround reciever).
So tempting, so tempting.

It comes with what, an 8gb drive? For playing DivX and the like, I’d either stream it over the network or from DVDR. but for emulation, it would probably be handier to have it right on the Xbox itself. And with all of the ROMs I have, that would take up a lot of space. Especially MAME (I assume there is a MAME port for it) :)
I heard it can do PSX emulation too. That’s rather nifty, if it does. Since I have a pile of broken Playstations here, and a working one that has problems with some games.

At least on modchip.ca, it’s $59 USD or $89 CAD (I think - that’s from memory) for a preorder. And I was wrong about the LCD thing, it only has support for it. It’ll be something extra you can buy later on to just plug into it. But that’s not the reason I was wanting one. Or ever solderless, really, but it would be nice.
I don’t really know much about streaming videos and stuff yet, but some other people I know on IRC have plenty of good things to say.
