Not much new
Well, I haven’t really been thinking about updating this site for a couple of weeks. Not in the right frame of mind, I guess. I’ve been feeling better, since it started warming up. Easier to actually go out to do things every now and then. It’s such a pain in the winter, because it’s so cold. Like today, I went out for a little bike ride to the Man in the Mountain and back, and took some pictures along the way.
On the computer side of things, I recently got a Pentium Pro 200 Mhz system. I haven’t really done much with it yet, but I do plan to upgrade to dual cpu, and 512 MB ram as soon as I can. Maybe even use it as a Linux desktop system, I also have a Sun Ultra 5 on the way. I’ll be able to play around with Solaris in its intended environment. I’ve even done some coding! Yesterday I quickly hacked up a quotes database. It was easier because I already had the layout and basic ideas from Tyler’s code (it seems more right to use proper names in this journal, unlike my LJ). I didn’t really use any of his code though, partly because his is in BML (Perl), and I wanted mine to be in PHP.
I wonder how much extra is going to be coming out of my paycheques, now that my benefits have kicked in (or so I assume). That’s going to leave me with even less to spare. Although I’ll be getting my raise in a couple of months, so that will offset things a little. Oh well – I don’t have many expenses, just some towards rent/food/dsl/etc, my student loan payment, and stuff for making my lunches at work – which I spend maybe $20 on per week. I make good sandwiches :) Or rather, my mom makes them most of the time. I’m lazy… but I really appreciate all she does for me. I’m happy to still be able to live at home sensibly with my family. It just kinda sucks more for meeting girls. Not that my parents care or anything, but the girl might not be comfortable somehow. But right now I think my best choice is to be living at home.
Where was I… I don’t even know. Oh yeah. This morning I decided to start taking 3 pictures every day, of 3 different things. Take the same picture every day, at around the same time if I can, and see how they change over time. Right now, I just have the first set up, so it doesn’t have much to it: http://gallery.gushue.net/dailyphoto – maybe later I can even make some sort of time-lapse thing with these. The fun you can have with a digital camera, just because it’s there. You don’t need any particular reason to use it :)
