Well, I haven’t really been thinking about updating this site for a couple of weeks. Not in the right frame of mind, I guess. I’ve been feeling better, since it started warming up. Easier to actually go out to do things every now and then. It’s such a pain in the winter, because it’s so cold. Like today, I went out for a little bike ride to the Man in the Mountain and back, and took some pictures along the way.
On the computer side of things, I recently got a Pentium Pro 200 Mhz system. I haven’t really done much with it yet, but I do plan to upgrade to dual cpu, and 512 MB ram as soon as I can. Maybe even use it as a Linux desktop system, I also have a Sun Ultra 5 on the way. I’ll be able to play around with Solaris in its intended environment. I’ve even done some coding! Yesterday I quickly hacked up a quotes database. It was easier because I already had the layout and basic ideas from Tyler’s code (it seems more right to use proper names in this journal, unlike my LJ). I didn’t really use any of his code though, partly because his is in BML (Perl), and I wanted mine to be in PHP.
I wonder how much extra is going to be coming out of my paycheques, now that my benefits have kicked in (or so I assume). That’s going to leave me with even less to spare. Although I’ll be getting my raise in a couple of months, so that will offset things a little. Oh well – I don’t have many expenses, just some towards rent/food/dsl/etc, my student loan payment, and stuff for making my lunches at work – which I spend maybe $20 on per week. I make good sandwiches :) Or rather, my mom makes them most of the time. I’m lazy… but I really appreciate all she does for me. I’m happy to still be able to live at home sensibly with my family. It just kinda sucks more for meeting girls. Not that my parents care or anything, but the girl might not be comfortable somehow. But right now I think my best choice is to be living at home.
Where was I… I don’t even know. Oh yeah. This morning I decided to start taking 3 pictures every day, of 3 different things. Take the same picture every day, at around the same time if I can, and see how they change over time. Right now, I just have the first set up, so it doesn’t have much to it: http://gallery.gushue.net/dailyphoto – maybe later I can even make some sort of time-lapse thing with these. The fun you can have with a digital camera, just because it’s there. You don’t need any particular reason to use it :)

I hate to complain about work so much, but I can’t help it. Of the 4+ part timers they hired last week, I think at least 1 or 2 of them quit already. Possibly more. And one of our existing part timers will be starting on maintenance soon, so that’s one less person. Plus all of the people that haven’t been at work much for a long time… we’re always really shorthanded.
Last night, I was asked to come into work an hour early – to help unload a truck and haul freight to the floor. There were two huge trailers, and only 2 unloaders working. They’ve been shorthanded as well (I went in early, partly for selfish reasons, because I knew the Paper/Chemicals department – where I usually work – would be swamped with freight, and getting started early would be better). But whenever we hire someone, either someone else leaves, or they quit soon after. Still, work has been getting slightly better again. Trying to make them stop doing stupid shit, to at least make things tolerable.
Anyway… I’ll try not to bitch about work so much in the future :)
I sometimes wonder what the audience of this weblog is. I’ve only told a handful of people specifically about it. And not any family. My sister at least knows of my LJ, although I don’t know how often she reads it. She’s been posting more often there lately. Not that it helps me get any idea of what she does from day to day :) I try to post more thoughtful and/or personal things in this weblog, not my LJ. I’m not sure why, really. Maybe because this is on my own server, and has my real name more a part of it (the domain name).
I still haven’t played my Gamecube very much. Not sure why – I guess I’ve been too lazy to go downstairs to play on the TV there. I should either get a small TV for up here, or hook it up to my computer (via my TV card). It’s more comfortable playing games in my room, and not the living room. And I have some cool games for it. And my Dreamcast too, for that matter.
I don’t spend enough time having fun anymore. Haven’t done much in months, really. I’m getting sick of that. I need to meet more people around here. But that’s hard when you work weekends (that hopefully should change in a month or two). It would be really nice to find a girlfriend again. There are some cute girls that work days, that I wouldn’t mind getting to know better. And a few of them are familiar from years ago, that I used to know. That could help :) But I’m just too shy sometimes, hard to meet people out of the blue like that. I’ve been quite direct at times in the past, but that’s not the norm for me.

They’ve hired a bunch of people this weekend, and that’s good. Two started on Saturday, but only one of them showed up again on Sunday. Some more started last night, but I’m not sure how many of those were hired just for inventory purposes… but the extra help is definitely noticable, and appreciated. Things were still a little hectic for the last two nights, but that’s mostly because they were waxing in part of the departments I work in.
Long weekend coming up, too. And I actually have the same days off as someone else I work with, so we can go get drunk :) (we both work in the same areas, and they don’t like to let us have the same days off). Last night of work for the week for me, too – 2 days off after tonight.
I’ve been doing weekly 20% water changes in my aquarium since I got it, and tomorrow I’ll be doing another one. I hate having to wait for the tank to finish cycling before I add more fish, but eventually I’ll be able to add more. I think I’ve decided on getting 5 or 6 glowlight tetras – if the store has any. I can’t remember offhand.
I’ve been going through little high and low periods lately, but I partly blame the weather. It’s been a long and cold winter, and it’s just now finally starting to go away. It was even nice enough to take some pictures last week. I’ll be doing more of that as it gets warmer, and I’m able to go on longer bike rides in the mornings when I get off work.
